I did a lot of work today. After morning shift in the kitchen, I was assigned to paint a lime green room to light orange so it would match the dark orange floor. I was working four-hour days and couldn't wait to be done. Today was easier because another couchsurfer worked with me and I could hang out with him. It felt like the first normal human I'd hung out with in a while, compared to all the organic food snobs that frequented the cafe. I could say "This Juan guy is weird," and he would say "Yeah, he is! Has he been trying to get you to live here with him forever?" It was invigorating and made me feel like I wasn't crazy.
I went to the flea market again and bought a little radio. I figured I could listen to it while I hitchhiked and during my down time. Maybe I could learn some Spanish from the talking channels. Unfortunately, I couldn't pick up any signal when I brought it back to my room.
Me and my painting buddy from earlier ate a dinner, if I recall correctly, of whey and sawdust in the cafe. We joked about how these meals were not enough and we weren't getting paid sufficiently for our labor. Later, we tried to figure out how to cook the green fruit I had harvested. (The kitchen staff had had no idea.) We didn't have any luck. We looked elsewhere in the basement kitchen for food. There was only fruit in the bin. I think we each ate a hand of bananas, plus oranges, and whatever else we could find. I think that was the first time I had star fruit. We basically cleaned out the bin, but left some of the weird-looking fruits. Both of us were still kind of hungry.
